World Choking Awareness Day 10/11/12

Parents and foundations around the world are joining efforts to launch a day of recognition and awareness for the alarming increase in children and teens participating in suffocation games. October 11, 2012 has been declared Worldwide Choking Game Awareness Day. The date, 10-11-12, also represents the age range of when children most often learn of the game.

Although national statistics are scarce, parents have self-reported more than 600 deaths attributed to the choking game in the last six years. According to Neecy Jarman, “The CDC currently has no way to track the choking game, one of many names used by kids , as a cause of death.”

After losing her son to the choking game 15 months ago, Jarman, like other grief-stricken, bewildered parents, had previously been unaware of the game or its terrifying consequences.
